Lab Technician (Materials)
Full-time Temporary Position
2 Positions Available

Please note that this is a full-time (M-F, 8 am – 5 pm) temporary position that is expected to run through June 2012.

Plextronics seeks two Lab Technicians to support the research team and maintain a clean and organized laboratory.

The Technicians will be responsible for the following:
  • Synthesis, purification, and characterization of materials candidate molecules;
  • Conduct multi-step syntheses, which may include the utilization of specialized organic chemistry techniques such as handling air- and moisture-sensitive reagents, and solid phase organic synthesis;
  • Isolate and purify compounds from complex mixtures, and characterize purified compounds using modern spectroscopic techniques with guidance from the team leader;
  • Comprehensive and accurate documentation of all laboratory work is an integral part of the job, as is the organization and communication, both orally and in written form, of all results.
The position requires the following education and experience:
  • Laboratory technician certification or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related fields;
  • 1-2 years of hands-on lab experience is a plus, but not required.
The position requires the following competencies:
    Familiarity with standard notebook maintenance, laboratory safety and operations;
  • Basic computer skills including use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel;
  • The ability to work independently;
  • The ability to quickly learn new skills/techniques;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • The ability to safely handle labware and chemicals.

Lab Technician (Materials Synthesis)
Full-Time Temporary Position

Please note that this is a full-time (M-F, 8 am – 5 pm) temporary position that is expected to run through June 2012.

Plextronics is seeking a Lab Technician to support the research team goals through the synthesis, purification, and characterization of materials candidate molecules.

  • Provide materials for formulations in a timely manner.
The position requires the following education, experience, and skills:
  • Laboratory technician certification or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related fields;
  • 1-2 years of hands-on lab experience is a plus, but not required.

Process Engineer II
Full-Time Position

Plextronics seeks a Process Engineer II to develop low-cost, scalable, and high-throughput solution processes to deposit organic function layers on large size substrates for the applications of organic electronic devices.

Other responsibilities of the job will include the following:
  • Work on pilot-product-line to fabricate large size OLED lighting panels;
  • Develop other low-cost, scalable, and high throughput solution processes for the applications of organic electronics;
  • Design and make high-efficiency OLED devices based on Plextronics‘ proprietary materials;
  • Design and develop large area OLED lighting panels;
  • Coordinate with team members and other teams to deliver product prototypes and demos.
The position requires the following education, experience, and skills:
  • Masters degree or equivalent in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field;
  • 7+ years of experience in the field of organic electronics; including at least 3+ years of industrial experience is preferred;
  • A strong background in both organic electronics device fabrication and device physics;
  • Hands-on experience in organic electronic device making;
  • Hands-on experience with solution process including spin-coating, ink-jetting, or dip-coating;
  • Extensive knowledge is required in cleanroom techniques and organic electronics equipment, including spin-coater, inkjet printer, glove box, vacuum deposition system, wet cleaning machine, encapsulation system, etc.;
  • Familiarity with device/panel design and fabrication process is required;
  • Experience in several of the following techniques is required: UV-Vis, Photoluminescence, optical microscopy, profilometry, ellipsometry, spectral reflectometry, AFM, SEM, and thin film characterization;
  • Excellent communication skills are a must, as is the ability to think and plan ahead.

Device Technician
Full-Time Temporary Position

Please note that this is a 3rd shift position and will require the employee to work midnight to 9 a.m., Monday through Friday. This is a temporary position that is expected to run through June 2012.

Plextronics seeks a Device Technician for all facets of device preparation including substrate cleaning, solution preparation and casting, cathode deposition and encapsulation. Some of these steps are conducted in a cleanroom, which requires the employee to be comfortable working in a cleanroom environment, wearing cleanroom attire, and using glove boxes on daily basis.

Other responsibilities will include the following:
  • Device testing utilizing various opto-electrical equipment such as power supplies, electrometers, and light meters;
  • Inventory and on-time supply ordering;
  • Equipment maintenance and proactive measures for facility upkeep;
  • Proactive communication of issues with run owners;
  • Installation of new infrastructure for future development.
The position requires the following education, experience, and skills:
  • 2-year degree or a Bachelors degree in Electronics Engineering, Materials Science, or Physics, or specialized training in one of these areas.
  • Candidates must possess a good technical background and a strong aptitude for conducting research in a commercial environment.
  • Familiarity with organic electronics, vacuum deposition, device testing, clean room, glove boxes is a plus, but we will train the employee if necessary;
  • Clean room experience is desired;
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills are a must, as is the ability to think and plan ahead;
  • Manual dexterity to function with thick glove box gloves;
  • The ability to spend long period of time standing at a glove box;
  • The ability to spend long periods of time in a clean room environment.

Lab Technician (Materials Characterization)
Full-Time Temporary Position

Please note that this is a full-time (M-F, 8 am – 5 pm) temporary position that is expected to run through June 2012.

Plextronics seeks a Lab Technician to assist in the routine collection and standard processing of analytical data. The Technician will also assist in spinning and other sample preparation of thin films for characterization.

This role will require use of the following equipment and instruments:
  • FTIR spectrometer
  • Atomic force microscope
  • Optical microscope
  • Profilometer
  • UV VIS spectrometer
  • Spin coater
  • Glovebox
Education/Experience/Skills

This position requires the following education, experience, and skills:
  • Training and/or demonstrated experience required in one of the following areas; training or experience in more than one area is a plus but not necessary; we will train the employee if necessary.
    • Analtyical chemistry methods, including FTIR or UV-VIS spectroscopy
    • AFM microscopy
    • Optical Microscopy
    • Nanofabrication and/or other cleanroom characterization methods.
  • 2-year college degree or a Bachelors degree in analytical chemistry, materials science, or specialized training in one of these areas.
  • Training in making routine analytical measurements as well as the willingness to learn additional analysis methods (on an as needed basis);
  • Good dexterity and the ability to handle, manipulate, and transfer of glass plates and thin organic films for respective analysis;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Excellent documentation, organizational, and time management skills;
  • The ability and willingness to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment;
  • Experience working with and reporting data in MS Office and specifically MS Excel.

Applications Engineer II
Full-Time Position

The Applications Engineer will provide technical customer and sales support, lead the customer coating and device-making trials at Plextronics, and ensure customer satisfaction.

The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively with customers in Europe and Asia and work across functional groups within the company. The Applications Engineer must be able to quickly develop a plan to address customer requests and act on those plans according to a set timeline.

Other duties will include:

  • Direct interaction with US, EU, and Asia-based customers;
  • Perform root cause analysis of customer issues;
  • Translate customer requirements to product teams;
  • Provide data packages for customer evaluations;
  • Provide data packages for product development support;
  • Prepare application notes for technical product marketing;
  • Written/verbal communication of project status on a weekly basis.
This role will require <20% travel.

The successful candidate will have the following education, experience, and skills:

  • Bachelor‘s degree minimum in Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering;
  • 5-7 years experience in OLED materials and devices is strongly preferred;
  • Thin film characterization experience;
  • Strong problem solving skills;
  • Action-oriented;
  • Excellent communication skills.
Proficiency with the following tools and equipment is strongly preferred:
  • DOE and statisical analysis tools / Six Sigma training or equivalent;
  • Slot die /ink jet/nozzle printing equiment;
  • Ink characterization tools;
  • Ink processing equipment.
